E1 Music and NE’ASTRA Music Group is happy to announce the release of Villa Manifesto, the new studio album by Detroit hip hop group Slum Village, on July 27, 2010. The album is the group’s first to feature vocal contributions from all four members: T3, J Dilla and the late Baatin and Elzhi. The album also features Dwele, De La Soul, Little Brother, Colin Munroe and Phife and production by Young RJ, J. Dilla, Dave West, Hi Tek, and Mr. Porter. The first single, “Faster,” features Colin Munroe and was produced by Young RJ will be serviced to radio shortly.

Slum Village’s 6th studio album serves as both a reunion and a memorial album. “I wanted to pull the whole squad together,” explains T3. “The reason why we call it Villa Manifesto is that it was a statement we want to give our people because we had been away for so long. What we’re doing, what’s going on, how we’re feeling and where we’re at today.”

In its earliest incarnation, Slum Village was a trio: T3, Baatin and would-be production legend J. Dilla (then Jay Dee). When Dilla left the group to pursue a solo career in 2002, the syllable slamming upstart Elzhi was brought in to supplement Baatin and T on the Trinity LP. Shortly thereafter, Baatin himself would split as well, citing health issues, and leaving just the duo of T3 and Elzhi. In 2006, Dilla passed away from complications stemming from his long battle with Lupus. Then, last summer Baatin was found dead in his home, the cause unknown.

After forming in the late ’90s, the group quickly earned critical acclaim with Fantastic Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. Their third album Trinity (Past, Present, Future) propelled them even further as it included the hit single “Tainted,” which featured fellow Motowner Dwele.

Music mogul Diddy says up-and-coming rapper Nicki Minaj is one of the “great ones.” He tells MTV.com that the Young Money rapper is a lot like some famous athletes. Diddy says, quote, “She has a long way to go, but you know how we recognized LeBron [James] was a great one, Tiger [Woods] was a great one, and Kobe [Bryant] was a great one? Nick is up there. Her story has just begun.” Minaj has yet to release a debut album, although she’s been featured on a variety of collaborations. The rapper features on Christina Aguliera’s new “Bionic” album with the track “Woohoo.” She’s also been on the Ludacris song, “My Chick Bad,” Robin Thicke’s “Shaking It For Daddy,” and Mariah Carey’s recent “Up Out My Face.” Minaj’s only solo single to date has been “Massive Attack.”
If Diddy singing Minaj’s praises sounds like he’s got stock in her — he does. The music business veteran is signing Minaj to a new management firm he is starting. He has already signed rapper Rick Ross to the new venture.

Former Bad Boy rap star Black Rob has been released from prison, after seven years of incarceration on a grand larceny charge.

Black Rob is best known for his hit single “Whoa,” taken from his platinum-selling 1999 album Life Story.

According to Black Rob, his fame followed him behind bars, where some inmates acted like “groupies” upon seeing the rapper.

“You had people in there man who felt like groupies every time they said hi to me,” Rob told BET News. “‘Why you saying hi to him? You’re a groupie.’ You got certain brothers man, real dudes got pride. They’re going to approach me regardless. ‘What’s up man? How are you doing?’ Basically me, I had a couple of problems. But it never resulted into anything physical.”

According to Black Rob, his time behind bars was no walk in the park. Although he managed to avoid any serious confrontations during his seven years down, there was plenty of friction.

“You had officers in there being real disrespectful ripping pictures of my family off the wall and doing disrespectful things,” Black Rob said.

Black Rob is no longer signed with Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Bad Boy imprint.

Black Rob said he was “disappointed” with Combs and  claimed “turned his back” on him while he was locked up.

“I’m from the streets so if you tell me you love me and you tell me you my man, I’m going to take that and run with that, feel me?” Black Rob said. “When something happens to me and you turn your back on me, regardless of the situation, regardless of what we been through, I mean I don’t appreciate that…I don’t respect that. If you my man, I’m going to always be your man unless you flip on me. I was under the assumption that I was family.”

Black Rob made it clear that he was not blaming anyone for his actions and that he had no “hatred” in his heart towards Bad Boy.

“I don’t want to retaliate and I don’t want to make any records about Bad Boy,” Black Rob said.

Legendary R&B veteran Ronald Isley, of the Isley Brothers, is a free man — this after serving a three year sentence on tax evasion charges.

Speaking up via radio earlier this month, Isley confirmed that he is going straight to the studio and recording a new Isley Brothers album.

According to Isley, the album will be an “all star” effort, featuring some of today and yesteryear’s top acts.

While news of Isley’s return is great for R&B, the legendary performer says time behind bars was challenging.

“(I was) talking to young people and crying with them and people that were gonna be in there some years and that part really hurts,” says Isley. “They (inmates) looked up to me.”

The Neptunes’ Pharrell has updated fans on the status of an upcoming N.E.R.D. album and said he had to toss out nearly 30 recorded tracks so they could start over again.

According to Pharrell, the Nothing album will feature a noticeable female appeal.
“We scrapped 27 records because they weren’t good enough, they sounded great – but what were they saying? So we went back in (to the studio) and just focused on feeling…,” he revealed in an interview. “It’s almost like we did this whole entire album with our eyes closed, not because it was that easy but because it was that important to reconnect to what we feel and I would say this album is like scrapping everything and starting with nothing…The music has been especially tuned in frequencies to speak to women… women will literally feel this, we are doing some other next level experimentation with this music…You know what’s so funny, It’s that not once do we say t*t or a** or anything that you think could be automatically erogenous but I think that the right mentality and good and pure intention is the sexiest thing that I could ever give to a woman.” (MTV UK)
Earlier this year, sources close to the camp claimed the crew’s female member, Rhea, was dropped.
Although Rhea performed with N.E.R.D. throughout the year and Pharrell confirmed her as their newest group member in October it seems that Rhea is no longer part of N.E.R.D. According to BOSSIP sources Rhea was kicked out of N.E.R.D. VERY RECENTLY “because they didn’t think her sound matched with N.E.R.D.’s style, which I don’t understand, because she never really did. Her sleeping around was also a problem.” Our source confirmed that while she claims to be in her twenties Rhea is actually 32. (Bossip)

In an interview with MTV UK, rapper Snoop Dogg gave his thoughts on Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber. The California rapper even revealed that he can relate to once being a “teenybopper.”
“I actually had a chance to meet the guy. He’s kind of cool,” Snoop told MTV UK. “I don’t really have a problem with the teenyboppers or whatnot. Once upon a time, I was a young teenager coming into the game, driving ‘em crazy…”
Both Bieber and Snoop Dogg went head to head on Tuesday, March 23 when they released their latest projects. Bieber released My World 2.0 while Snoop dropped his Malice N Wonderland re-release, More Malice.
Snoop explained that he has no problem facing off with Bieber on the charts and he even welcomes the competition.
“I don’t have no problem with that,” Snoop added. “That’s what the industry was made on…I wish him luck and success, hopefully his record will do what it’s supposed to do.”

“Every artist has haters.  I’ve come from nothing to touring the world so I expect it.  A month ago I was touring in one of the richest places in the world where only a select few rappers have ever been invited to.  I toured Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Beirut.  I performed in palaces and stood in front of bombed out buildings in Beirut.  I didnt hear or read one complaint.  I had a Sheikh offer me $1 million dollars to do a verse for him.  Most recently I performed 3 sold out shows in India and had a great time except my stomach is still hurting.  The crowds ranged from 500-1000 people at each venue.  I will be releasing the footage shortly.  A lot of people assume that I’m an overnight success. I signed my deal without having any co-signs or riding off anyone’s back.  I’m from New York.  No labels were giving deals to NY artists at that time even while I had an independent record on the Billboard chart. I don’t have to defend my credibility to anyone.  Research it if you don’t believe me.  Within the coming weeks I will be releasing some of my 2004 Method Man tour footage to the public.  Instead of hating, perhaps our efforts will be of better use to encourage and uplift the same upcoming artists who were once in my situation.   Nobody ever blogs about the positive aspects of my career.  If you’re going to critize someone speak intelligently.  After every show I shake everyones hand.  I take pictures with anybody who asks.  I don’t hide behind anyone because I take personal interaction with my fans very seriously and give back to them at every show.  How many other artists do that?
