8 People Charged in Michael Phelps ‘Bong’ Incident

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Michael Phelps says it’s going to take him two or three months to decide if he’s going to compete at the 2012 Summer Games in London, The Baltimore Sun reported.

“It will take a few months,” Phelps said in a post-practice interview Monday outside the pool where he trains, the newspaper reported. “I’ll give it 30 or 60 days. I think it will be better. I’m already happier now than I was, just having some part of my life back to normal, being able to swim again, having fun, joking around.”

Eight people have been arrested since a photo of Phelps with a marijuana pipe was published in a British tabloid earlier this month, a Columbia, S.C., television station reported Tuesday. Seven people have been charged with drug possession and one person with distribution, WIS-TV reported.

The television station also reported that police confiscated the bong Phelps allegedly used after tracking it down when its owner, who is one of the eight people charged in the case, attempted to sell it on eBay for $100,000.

Phelps apologized for a lapse in judgment, lost a sponsor in Kellogg Co. and was suspended for three months by USA Swimming. But he’s no longer waking up to people shouting outside his apartment, and the paparazzi aren’t dogging him with the same vigor, according to the report.

“I’m not feeling too good physically,” Phelps said, according to the report. “But I’m actually able to sleep now. I had a real hard time sleeping over the last two weeks or so. Just swimming and thinking about everything going on. Everything is back to what I call normal, I guess.”

Phelps, the winner of a record-breaking eight gold medals at Beijing last summer, said he called every one of his sponsors to apologize and spoke to everyone except Kellogg, according to the report.

“I guess the only one I didn’t really talk to was Kellogg, and I attempted to call four days in a row and didn’t get any responses,” Phelps said, The Sun reported. “I talked to everybody else, and they’re all supportive.”

News: Jim Jones Charged with Assault For Scuffle w/ Jay-Z Associate

Jim Jones

On Monday January 5, 2009 Dipset Capo Jim Jones appeared at the 18th Precinct in New York City to speak to the police about an alleged physical altercation that took place on Christmas Eve. Jones has since been slapped with a misdemeanor assault charge and a court appearance has been scheduled for February 4th.

As SOHH.com’s Gyant Scoop blog previously reported early rumors said Jim Jones got into an altercation with the brother of Ty-Ty Smith, a long-time Jay-Z associate. Jones has had a very public beef with Jay-Z.

“There’s been word of a ‘beef’ that went too far between Ne-Yo, Jim Jones and Jay-Z’s right hand man Ty-Ty’s brother Vaughn. According to various gossip sources, Go-Go and Jimmy got into a tussle at the Louis Vuitton store on 5th Ave in NYC.

“While the details are sketchy, my people tell me that a lot of the stories being posted are ‘grossly exaggerated.’ Apparently Ne-Yo and Ty-Ty’s brother were shopping in the store when J. Jones approached the guys and started going off on Vaughn, who just so happens to bare a striking resemblance to his brother Ty-Ty.”

Last week Jones declined MTV’s request for a comment about rumors.

“I don’t wanna talk about that,” Jones told MTV News refusing to comment on the incident. “Nah, we not doing that, let’s stop that right there. Let’s not do that. We above that.”

According to AllHipHop Jim did agree to answer the questions of NYPD investigators:

“Jones surrendered to the NYPD in accordance with arrangements made by attorney Scott Leemon last week, Leemon told AllHipHop.”

“While details of the incident remain unclear, the information provided by Jones was enough to warrant a charge and a summons for a desk appearance. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 4. Jones was released without bail immediately after making his statement, Leemon told AllHipHop.”
