Marion “Suge” Knight and Kanye West were both present on Friday (June 18) for a hearing regarding a 2005 Miami Beach party where Knight was shot in the leg.

As previously reported, West hosted the party at the Shore Club before the MTV Video Music Awards. Knight has sued the Def Jam producer and the club, assrting there was not enough security provided.

“I figured I could sit him down, man to man, and get this resolved,” said Knight to the Associated Press after what appeared to be a frustrating six-hour, closed-door session in New York. “I’m disappointed.”

West said he was not involved in the security arrangements for the party, according to Knight’s lawyer, Marc Brumer. The Shore Club denies claims of negligence as well.

“My whole thing is: I’m not here to put nobody behind bars,” added Knight, who claims that West and the Shore Club should’ve been aware of the “dangerous environment” the party could produce, due to beefing rap stars.

“It’s time for more positive now,” concluded the once-powerful mogul, who was notorious for his strong-armed tactics in the music industry

Suge Knight is seeking more than $1 million in damages, but would be required to share it with a bankruptcy trustee and the IRS if successful.

SWAGG REPORT: LiL Wayne’s 12 Year-Old Daughter Is Banned From Prison Visitations. Waste Down If You Ask Us…

Rap superstar Lil Wayne presently remains incarcerated on Rikers Island for drug and weapons convictions. The multi-platinum rapper and Young Money Records founder may be out as soon as late this year, but reports state he will have to wait to see his 12 year-old daughter Reginae Carter.

Reginae’s mother and Wayne’s ex-wife Toya Carter told VIBE that the estranged couple made an agreement to not permit the adolescent from visiting her father in the New York prison. “That’s no place for a kid to go…[Wayne and I] just decided not to let her go [to Riker's Island], period. She’s never been. He makes sure he talks to his daughter everyday, talking and writing is enough.”

In previous interviews, Toya, star of her own BET reality show, Tiny and Toya, has commended Wayne as a father, and his ability to juggle stardom and his daughter.

Wayne’s first official, Young Money artist release, Drake’s Thank Me Later, was unveiled earlier this week.

Swagg Report: Bun B Brings Star-Studded “Trill O.G.” To New York City. fRom tHe nEck uP

Damon Dash offered up his creative space, The Dash Gallery, last night in New York City’s ultra-chic Tribecca neighborhood to none other than Bun B for the evening. The UGK veteran played his third solo album Trill O.G. to a gallery full of media and fellow artists alike.

Rarely does an emcee have that much support from his peers at a listening event. Considering Bun B’s living legend status, coupled with the South in town for Vh1’s Southern fried edition of Hip Hop
Honors, a sizeable turnout could be expected.

Those in attendance included Dash Gallery’s forefather Dame Dash, Chamillionaire, Slim Thug (who is on the Trill O.G. track “Riding Slow”), Asher Roth, Self Scientific’s Chace Infinite, and Mickey Factz, among others. Bun breezed through the 15-track soon to be classic, opening with the southern hymn “Church” and leading into the T-Pain assisted “Trillionaire.” Other cameos on the album include Young Jeezy on the bouncy “Just Like That,” and Drake on two tracks: “Put It Down” and the closer “It’s Been a Pleasure.” The most surprising track on Trill O.G. brings Bun B with his former UGK brethren Pimp C and Tupac Shakur who both posthumously bless the track “Right Now” with Trey Songz on the hook. DJ Premier puts his best Gang Starr foot forward, producing the epic “Let Em Know,” sending a nod to the late Guru.

Bun B was met with responses of thorough applause and whiplashing head nods in the smoke laced space as he smiled and mouthed the words to each song. “It’s been a pleasure,” Bun stated as he closed out the evening with the like titled track. He then proceeded to shake hands and prep for an aftershow in the basement featuring himself, The Cool Kids, and new school rapper on the rise Big K.R.I.T.

Trill O.G. hits stores on August 3rd.

Swagg Report: Jim Jones Loses Max B’s Publishing Rights. Be On The Look Out For “The Hour” D.V.D ft Max B Brought To You By SwaggNews.

While Max B may be serving a 75-year prison sentence for his role in a fatal robbery last September, this week he scored a victory that will finally give him control over his music.

On Wednesday, a judge ruled that Dipset member and former associate Jim Jones no longer maintains a hold on the incarcerated rapper’s music and that all contractual obligations were fulfilled.

Max B recorded an album with Amalgam Digital called Vigilante Season, but claims he could not release it because Jones’ legal team sustained that he was still under contract. Although the album was recorded over a year and a half ago, it is still scheduled to release sometime this year.

Swagg Report: Drake Says He Can Never Hold Down / Take Over Young Money.

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Drake doesn’t plan on filling in for his Young Money label-mate Lil Wayne while he finishes his sentence at Rikers Island. Drake says that while he will work hard to make Young Money a success, he can never take over what Wayne has built. He explains, quote, “I can never hold down Young Money because I’m not Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne is who we look up to. He’s our mentor.” Drake adds, quote,

“I will definitely do everything to keep the brand going, keep Young Money on people’s minds. But Lil Wayne is the only one – he’s the epicenter of that all.”

Drake says he hopes that people who enjoy his upcoming record, “Thank Me Later,” will give credit to Young Money, adding that without Lil Wayne’s help he wouldn’t be where he is today. He states, quote, “I do it in honor of him as opposed to filling the void.”
Lil Wayne is currently serving a one-year sentence at New York’s Rikers Island for gun charges. His website, WeezyThanxYou.com, says he has 160 days left behind bars. Drake’s highly-anticipated “Thank Me Later” album is slated to drop on June 15th.

Swagg Report: Lil Wayne Says Contraband Were Found In His Cell. Says “I’ll Be Home Soon”

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Photobucket
Last week, it was reported that Lil Wayne’s Rikers Island cell was found with musical contraband – an MP3 player and unauthorized headphones. The CEO of Young Money Records permitted a rare recording of a phone interview with friend and The Nino Brown Story collaborator, DJ Scoob Doo.

Within the brief call, Wayne confirmed those reports. “They tried to bang me with that,” said the emcee, referring to the reprimand. “But I can’t live without my music, Scoob. You know how it is, man. I needed my music.” Lil Wayne did not speak on whether he was or will be punished for the infraction. Reports stated that the music player was confiscated immediately.

Speaking about his living conditions on Rikers Island, the multi-platinum Rap veteran said, “I’m coolin’, I’ll be home soon.” Perhaps due to his and DJ Scoob Doo’s previous title, Wayne compared himself to the protagonist of the film, New Jack City. “It’s Nino Brown; I got the penthouse here at Riker’s. I got my feet up, ya smell me?”

If his one-year sentence is reduced to the reported eight months for good behavior, Lil Wayne could be a free man as early as November. During Wayne’s sentence, his label’s biggest artist, Drake, is expected to release his official full-length debut, Thank Me Later, presently due to release next month.

Lil Wayne has no regrets about storing prison “contraband”, including iPod earphones and a charger, in his jail cell even though the decision could cost him extra time behind bars.

The hip-hop star is serving a year-long sentence at New York’s Rikers Island prison after pleading guilty to gun possession charges.

But he’s struggling to cope without his luxuries and earlier this month, prison officials found he was hiding banned music equipment during a search of his cell. In a frank phone call with his pal DJ Scoob Doo earlier this week, the “Lollipop” hitmaker admitted he was prepared to take a punishment for the banned items.

The DJ says, “He said, ‘Yeah, they tried to bang me with that. But I can’t live without my music, Scoob. You know how it is, man. I needed my music. It’s all good; I had to take my lil slip up. I ain’t trippin’, players f**k up.’”

Swagg Report: Rikers Island Prison Gaurd Fired For Trying To See LiL Wayne.

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Former Rikers guard Amelia Negron says she was fired after she was accused of trying to sneak a peak at Lil Wayne, who is currently serving time at the facility.

is preparing a federal suit against New York City because she claims she was forced to confess trying to gawk at Wayne, according to the New York Daily News.

“I don’t even like rap,” explained Negron, 33. “I like rock and alternative music and didn’t know much about him when they said I tried to see him. None of it’s true.”

“The door to the area was unlocked, and so I went in to say hello, and that officer said, ‘Hey, you can’t be here. We’ve got a celeb here.’ I said, ‘Okay, no problem,’ turned around and left,” she continued.

Negron says that Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association President Norman Seabrook said he’d take care of the matter if she admitted to trying to see Wayne – a claim he denies.

On April 19, Negron was fired because the Department of Correction judged she had missed too many days of work. Negron rebuked the assertion, blaming her missed days on an injury at a gun range.

Negron plans to file a federal suit, claiming discrimination and harassment.

Swagg Report: LiL Wayne Ordered Not To Sign Autographs While In Prison.

Incarcerated rapper Lil Wayne has reportedly been ordered not to sign any autographs during his time in jail. The hip-hop star was sentenced to a year in prison on weapons possession charges this week and began serving his time at New York’s Rikers Island prison on Monday, March 8

But officials at the institution have instructed the “Lollipop” hitmaker to avoid publicizing his celebrity status while he is in jail and banned him from signing autographs for other inmates, according to TMZ. A representative for the Correction Officer’s Benevolent Association tells the website the decision was made because “Lil Wayne is not a celebrity in here.”

Beside not allowed to sign any autographs, Lil Wayne was also recently reported that he is not given special treatment in the prison since Correction Department’s spokesman Stephen Morello revealed that Weezy never requests for protective custody. He added, “It’s his choice.”

SWAGG REPORT: Lil Wayne Heading To Rikers Island Prison. His Jail Sentencing Has Also Been Extended To March 2nd 2010. He Records 4 Videos In 1 Week Before He Serves His Time.

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Although Lil Wayne will spend a year in prison, fans will get to see plenty of the rapper, as he recorded four music videos this past weekend.

According to MTV News, Cash Money heads Ronald “Slim” Williams and Brian “Baby” Williams entlisted the servies of video director David Rousseau to shoot nine videos. Production reportedly began at 9:00 AM on Friday (Feb 5), and finished around 8:00 AM on Sunday (Feb 7). [Editor's Note: HipHopDX learned Thursday morning that Wayne in fact shot four weekend videos, to add to five already finished shoots.]

We shot some shit from the [We Are Young Money compilation] album, we shot something from [Wayne's forthcoming] Tha Carter IV. Some stuff from [Wayne's recent LP] Rebirth,” said the director. “We knew what our deadline was. We’re trying to get maximum coverage for Wayne. Most of the time we only shot Wayne’s verses — we’ll finish the rest of the videos off in the next couple of weeks.”

Rousseau elaborated, explaining the magnitude of the task at hand. “Cash Money said, ‘This is our deadline. This is a hard deadline.’ It was basically a Mission: Impossible [scenario]: This is your mission if you choose to accept it. Everybody is onboard because everybody knows what’s at stake. Unlike T.I. and some of these other guys that’s disappeared while they were in, the point is to keep Wayne [visible] on TV and everything for whatever time he’s in. There was a plan in action. Slim and Baby really could foresee that. He’s at the height of his career, you can’t let that momentum slip.

Among the videos that were recorded were “Da Da Da,” “Knockout” and “Get a Life” from Rebirth, and an unnamed “complete secret” track from Carter IV.

Well, leave it to Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Wayne to make sure his prized possession is perfectly aligned before heading to New York’s Rikers Island prison.

The bling-bling creator managed to extend his Tuesday jail sentencing until March 2 due to ongoing dental surgery for a cracked tooth. According to the rapper’s lawyer, Stacey Richman, Wayne’s medical condition needs to be “addressed” sooner rather than later.

“It is a medical situation that, like [it would for] any of us, has to be addressed,” she said outside a New York City courtroom, adding that Wayne had plans to have the surgery done before his Feb. 9 sentencing, however his dentist was out of the country participating in charitable work.

According to the Associated Press, Wayne is scheduled to undergo surgery Feb. 12 in Miami and will need 10 days to recover. Upon Judge Charles H. Solomon’s ruling, the New Orleans native must return home to Miami on Tuesday (Feb. 9) to prevent any delays with his surgery due to weather conditions leaving New York on Wednesday.

“I don’t want this to get pushed back anymore,” Solomon said. “This is the last adjournment.” Lil Wayne is set to serve a one-year prison term stemming from a Oct. 2007 arrest for attempted weapons possession.

WAIST DOWN “Awwwwe Omarion Loves Little Wayne”

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Omarion shot down reports that he was dropped from the label and stated that he requested to be let out of his contract with Young Money.

“I asked to be released from the label to pursue other opportunities that were recently presented to me. Because of our relationship, Lil’ Wayne had no issue with us ending our business relationship and released me from the label,” Omarion stated. “Lil’ Wayne and I have nothing but love for each other, there is no Beef.”

LIL WAYNE GOES ROCK:THE NEW ISSUE OF ROLLING STONE

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

“The rock shit just comes from what my life is now,” Wayne, 26, says. “I’ve grown into this person.” He released his first album, 1999’s Tha Block Is Hot, when he was only 17, and built his name on being the busiest rapper in the game, dropping a relentless stream of mixtapes and cameos. (Revisit Weezy’s journey from kid MC to superstar, in photos.) But aside from plucking at electric guitars onstage and in videos, Weezy never let on that his rap career could take such a significant detour. Describing a wild night when he woke up in bed with three or four women he couldn’t name, Wayne reveals he had an epiphany. “I just got — I’m not going to say ’so good’ at what I was doing, but it became such a regularity for me that I got tired of it. And then I said, ‘You know what? I’m not going to rap on this one.’ “

Binelli follows Wayne from his posh Atlanta apartment to a club showcase where the MC checks out talent for his Young Money imprint to the studio — Wayne’s home away from home — where the superstar puffs his ever-present blunts and plays some Rebirth songs that recall vintage Beastie Boys and current emo, topped by Weezy’s Auto Tuned warbling. Wayne tells Binelli he knew he didn’t have raw vocal talent, but he dedicated himself to learning how to make his singing voice sound good on record. “I don’t want to be the best rapper in the world. Not now,” he says. “I want to be the best. Period. Now. My favorite rapper hasn’t done what I’m doing.”
