SWAGG REPORT: Toronto’s Very Own Drake Gets Nominated 2 Times At The 2010 Grammy Awards.

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Toronto Rapper / Actor  Drake was nominated for best rap song and best rap solo performance for the hit single Best I Ever Had . It’s a great achievement for the 23-year-old rapper, who became an affiliate under the Young Money label last year of rapping phenom Lil Wayne. Drake’s first full album is due out next year.

No album out, strictly mixtapes and features, now he is at the 2010 Grammy Awards.

After his nomination was announced at a Grammy concert in Los Angeles Wednesday night, host LL Cool J asked Drake, who was in the audience, how he felt.

“I have to say, you know, it’s definitely an honour. I haven’t even put out my first album,” he said. “Being a kid from Toronto, I’m just proud, man. I know my mom’s at home, buggin’ out. I’m just glad to be here.”

He’s in tough company, however, up against artists such as Jay-Z, Eminem, Mos Def, T.I., Justin Timberlake, Rihanna and Kanye West in the categories.

SWAGG REPORT: Tila Tequila Making Hints That The Rapper Game Is Her Baby Father.

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Tila Tequila has reportedly slammed The Game for denying that he is the father of her unborn child

Tila Tequila, the model who rose to fame through social networking sites and her own MTV reality show, has since been somewhat of a tabloid target. Recently, she was in the press after her girlfriend Casey Johnson’s death. Now, less than a month later, she is making headlines again. This time, Tila has caused a bit of a buzz after announcing that she will be having a child with a rapper, who she says will not be revealed yet. Still, she dropped hints that made it clear the father may be Game

In a long series of Twitter posts, Tila noted that the rapper is someone “famous,” repeating the word several times throughout and confirming, “I guarantee you have bought his records before.”

“I just wanted to share to the world my joy cuz I can’t hide that secret for long anyway as my bump starts getting bigger!!!
But since you wanna know THAT BAD who the father of my child is…All I can say is that he is a VERY FAMOUS RAPPER! VERY VERY FAMOUS!”

She also added that he agreed to impregnate her so that she and Johnson could have a child. She added that he is only a friend and nothing more.

“He is just a GOOD friend of mine who was so touched by my story & decided that he would help me get pregnant 4 Casey & I…That is why he did this for us(Casey & I) but he is JUST a friend, but HE IS MY BABYS DADDY! I Guarantee you have bought his records before! So there you go. That is all I will tell u since I promised him I wont reveal his name! But he is a VERYYYY FAMOUS RAPPER!!!! SO SEXY TOO!”

Tila then went on to drop hints including the rapper’s tendency to participate in “beef” and more. Making the hints indicate that the father of the baby is Game. She somewhat confirmed this by saying he would take her out to buy baby clothes and later Tweeted that Game promised to take her to do just that following a few Tweets about her time in the studio with Game and Dr. Dre. She also called him her baby’s daddy, making it nearly official.

I’m Not A Rapper

After getting rapper Fat Al to change his name last year, it looks as if Bill Cosby is ready to use that name or not. Well, whatever the case may be, the 70 year-old comedian/actor will be releasing a Hip-Hop album called “State of Emergency” according to sources which will be profane free with non-degrading womanizing lyrics.

Bill Cosby is stated to be addressing issues like high school dropout, teen pregnancy, drug abuse, parenting and Black-on-Black crime on his upcoming album.

Your Favorite Rapper May Be Wearing Fake Jewelry

A new Wall Street Journal article looks at the effect the recession has had on “bling loving” rappers, some of whom are now rocking the cubic zirconia, the equivalent of spitting in Jay-Z’s face in hip hop.  Some interesting excerpts:

Rapper 50 Cent has relished the chance to accuse his musical adversaries of not glittering like gold. During a radio interview, the artist, whose real name is Curtis James Jackson III, taunted rapper Rick Ross for wearing faux and rented jewelry. “Everything that you see has to absolutely be fake,” said Mr. Jackson. Rick Ross, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II, has denied the claims. Mr. Jackson didn’t return requests for comment.

“A lot of these rappers simply don’t have the money for real stuff anymore,” says Jason Arasheben, who crafts custom jewelry for wealthy clientele, including Saudi royals and Hollywood movie stars, at his California boutique called Jason of Beverly Hills. “It’s to the point where they are wearing imitation jewelry, and that’s ridiculous.”

Mr. Arasheben designed the colossus of hip-hop jewels three years ago for rapper Lil Jon: an enormous gold necklace that spells out “CRUNK AIN’T DEAD” with 3,756 round-cut white diamonds (Crunk is a southern rap subgenre that Lil Jon — real name, Jonathan Mortimer Smith — has struggled to keep alive). The neck-straining piece, which weighs more than five pounds, was recognized in 2007 by Guinness World Records as the largest diamond pendant on Earth.

He also fashioned a pendant in the image of headphones bedecked in black and white diamonds a few years ago for rapper Biz Markie, whose whimsical jewelry hailed from a less self-conscious era in rap. The rapper — whose real name is Marcel Theo Hall – says he is saddened to see newer rappers favor big, chintzy junk over smaller jewels that illuminate personality. “Times are hard, ain’t nobody rocking it like that anymore,” says rapper and record executive Bryan “Birdman” Williams, who co-founded Cash Money Records in New Orleans in the early 1990s with his brother, Ronald “Slim” Williams. The independent label has sold more than 45 million albums. “People think these big pieces are blindin’ but they be like D-quality diamonds, and when you try and sell them you learn they ain’t worth a thing,” says Slim Williams. “You can’t be doing it like we did it no more.”
